Spinal pain
is often ignored by most people who think that it is a temporary pain and it
will go away soon. But spinal pain can be of various types. It might be just a
small twinge which is quite temporary, or it might be a chronic one which is
even capable of immobilizing you for several days, months or even years. Lower
back pain is the most common type of spinal pain experienced by people all over
and is a common cause for frequent visits to the physician, hospitalisation and
also surgery.
How to find relief?
Applying an
ice pack to the area of the pain might seem to relieve you of the pain
initially or you can even take some sort of pain medication which will help
reduce the pain. Resting also helps. But when the pain becomes chronic and you
seem to lose mobility, you should consult with a doctor as soon as possible.
The severity of your condition will decide the type of treatment you will
require.
· Injection-
It is given to reduce the swelling
caused which eventually reduces the pain and also improves function. Steroid
injections are commonly used for the treatment of
inflammation.
· Surgery-
When all the non-surgical methods have been
tried and proven to cause no effect; surgery is left as the last resort. There
are a lot of surgeries done on different parts of the spine. If your physician suggests surgery for you, it is always better to get a second opinion.
· Physical Therapy-
Exercise, massage, stretching,
acupuncture, etc. can help relieve a lot of the pain and also helps you recover
from the previously undergone procedures much faster.
But
prevention is always better than cure. So leading a healthy lifestyle with
regular exercise and better food habits will reduce your risks of acquiring any
kind of disease.
