Yoga is considered to be a fabulous way to provide relief from back pain and to prevent it from occurring in the future. It also helps to calm the mind and the body.
Yoga poses for relief from backache
- Warming up the spine: The spine can be massaged gently with cow/cat pose. Start on knees and hands, inhale slowly and arch the back slightly. Then exhale and draw navel towards spine, looking towards the belly. This is to be repeated daily 5-10 times.
- Basic yoga pose: This pose helps to strengthen and lengthen the leg and back muscles. Start on knees and hands and push body upwards like doing push0up. Then push hips up, angle them to face the ceiling. Relax neck muscles, gaze towards the thighs. Once completed, gently release to starting position. This is to be repeated 3 times every day.
- Doing away with stress to relieve pain: The lower back muscles can be released and hamstrings stretched by standing forward fold. Inhale arms out to sides and upwards with palm facing. Then exhale, bend gently at waist while lowering arms out to sides, as well as down towards ground. Then grab opposite elbows to let head hang. Stay in this position for 2 minutes and bend knees slightly. Place hands on the hip to come up. Practice this 3-5 times every day.
- Gentle pose for relaxing the mind: Performing the child pose can be playful and soothing, helping to alleviate lower back pain. Start on knees and hands and bring hips to heels. Then stretch arms out before to rest palms gently on floor. Relax forehead on ground to breathe deeply. For coming out of this position, crawl hands towards legs and sit slowly up. The head is to come up at the last. This pose is to be practiced 3 times daily.
The above are few of the yoga poses that can help anyone to get relief from severe back pain and to enjoy life.
